The NZELTO Africa programme is for Foreign Ministry officials aged 25 – 45 in a junior to mid-level position (First, Second or Third Secretary or equivalent level) whose current or future work requires dialogue with English-speaking countries and involvement in international forums where English is the primary language.
If you are currently serving in the Military you cannot apply.
Yes, applicants will need to have an English language proficiency equivalent to International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 4.5 – 5.5. You should already be using English frequently for work.
As part of the selection process applicants will be asked to complete an English language test through an online provider, you will be sent information about this test if you are selected.

The scholarship is for 10 weeks. You will travel to Wellington, New Zealand, to study at Victoria University of Wellington.
This is a full scholarship. The scholarship will cover all of the costs required to participate in the NZELTO scheme, including economy class travel to and from New Zealand, visa fees, a living allowance, accommodation, and medical insurance.

Successful applicants will need to apply for a New Zealand Visitor Visa. This is an online process and Wellington Uni-Professional (WUPL) will provide support for anyone having trouble applying.
You will need to have a valid passport to be able to apply for a Visa (your passport must be valid for AT LEAST three (3) months after the end of the programme).
Intake 16 will arrive in Wellington on the 6th March 2025 and stay for 10 weeks. You will have some online meetings with the programme team prior to departure.
